This star of ‘V’ drew upon some previous life experience for his role as Chad Decker.
According to Scott Wolf, before he decided to be an actor, he enrolled in a broadcast journalism program.
“I always had an interest in it, and so Chad has been good fun because on the surface there's the whole profession to explore, but he seems to be a really complicated guy, hard to figure out exactly who he is in this. So it's been good fun,” says Wolf.
Audiences best known Wolf for his role as Bailey on “Party of Five,” where he costarred with Matthew Fox (“Lost”).
In the remake of the classic sci-fi series, Wolf’s Decker is a career-driven news anchor whose exclusive interviews with Anna (the leader of the Vs), is crucial to being at the top of the ratings game.
“I feel like they're engaged in this kind of chess match, cat-and-mouse sort of game. The fun of it is anytime you play a scene where characters are saying one thing to each other, but there's actually something completely other going on under the surface, those are fun scenes to play. Every scene between Chad and Anna has at least sort of two layers of that,” says Wolf.
“There's always the thing that they're saying and this look that they're sharing, and then there's the part of it that they're not really sharing with each other. And it's a battle of a sort. You know, there's this sort of big, sort of massive kind of physical battle almost for control between Erica and Anna. And I think the battle between these two is much more sort of sensual, and it's a seduction. And it's been awfully fun. I feel like every time we step into a scene together, I'm not quite sure what's going to happen. And that's really fun.”
As for why Wolf thinks aliens visiting earth makes for a compelling story?
“I think most people don't think it's as farfetched as they would say in the light of day. I think it seems possible -- there's no other reason why we would keep exploring the story over and over,” the actor says.
“Obviously it makes for good storytelling. It's suspenseful and it's imaginative. But I think if most people didn't think it was at all possible, it would go away. This version of it, I think, is really compelling because it's managed to take that curiosity and plant it in the middle of a world that looks very much like the world we're living in today, which is a post-9/11 world where there's already a sense of unknown and suspense and anxiety over, you know, is the person sitting next to you.”
