In the re-imagined version of the sci-fi series "V," humanity gets up close and personal with a group of Visitors from another planet.

The series begins Tuesday, Nov. 3 on CTV at 8p.m. ET, when massive space ships hover over the world’s largest cities. When panic reaches a fever pitch, the hull of the ships turn into massive video screens, and the face of a beautiful woman instantly appears, calmly reassuring the world that they come in peace.

It also turns out the Visitors are a pretty good-looking group of people.

Earth soon learns that the Visitors have good intentions, and want to help humanity better themselves with their own advanced technology. The Visitors even invite curious humans on board their ships to take a look around.

This is where Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort comes in. The 25-year-old from Toronto plays “Lisa,” one of the ambassadors for the Visitors who recruit young people to spread good will on their behalf, including “Tyler,” played by Logan Huffman.

CTV audiences may recognize Vandervoort from her role as Sadie on “Instant Star,” or her role as Kara Zor-El (aka Supergirl) on “Smallville.”

With her gorgeous blue eyes, blonde hair and warm demeanour, it’s not hard to believe that Tyler is compelled to learn more about Lisa and the Visitors.

But not everyone on earth trusts the alien presence, and some believe that there is something more sinister at work despite the Visitors’ good intentions.

According to Vandervoort, if aliens were to someday arrive on Earth, she would be one of the people happy to see them.

“I think I would go towards the ship and want to learn more about it, and want to meet them.  I’d be like Logan Huffman’s character, Tyler -- afraid but interested and intrigued by what they had to offer,” says Vandervoort, who believes that intelligent life exists.

The series also stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Morris Chesnut, Joel Gretsch, Lourdes Benedicto, Scott Wolf and newcomer Morena Baccarin.

“V” is based on the original 1983 two-part mini-series of the same name, which spawned the sequel “V: The Final Battle,” then the 1984 TV series.

In 2008, Entertainment Weekly included the “V” mini-series in its "Top 25 Sci-Fi Movies and TV of the Past 25 Years" list.

“V” is produced by The Scott Peters Company and HDFilms in association with Warner Bros. Television. Scott Peters (The Outer Limits), Jeffrey Bell (Alias), Steve Pearlman (Reunion) and Jace Hall (F.E.A.R.) are executive producers. The pilot was directed by Yves Simoneau (Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee).
