When a new higher power arrives on earth in the form of the visitors, a priest begins to struggle with questions of faith.
In the new remake of the classic sci-fi series ‘V,’ Joel Gretsch plays Father Jack, who is suspicious of the new alien presence on earth, and is weary of their promises to save humanity.
During an interview with CTV.ca, Gretsch thinks that the spiritual aspect that his character explores on ‘V’ is essential to the show’s overall story.
“Religion and belief in something is so important, and I think superficiality it can run rampant in life. And to think of something beyond that is sometimes overlooked,” says the actor.
Gretsch is best known for his work as Tom Baldwin in the celebrated series, “The 4400,” and made his first film appearance in “The Legend of Bagger Vance.” He’s also appeared in “Minority Report,” “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” and “Shrink,” with Kevin Spacey.
Gretsch is originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, and currently lives in Los Angeles.
Now that “V” has returned for the second half of its first season, Gretsch is looking forward to Father Jack’s transformation from a man of faith to a man of action.
“I think Jack… is observant. He kind of observes a lot of things and stands from a weighty kind of position that everything else is bouncing off and asks, ‘What are we going to do, and how do we find that?’ It's been an interesting ride for me to play this part, because I want to be active,” says the actor.
“There's the man inside Father Jack that doesn't want to just -- you know, in a very spiritual or a kind way to something. He wants to be reactive. He wants to get pissed off and angry and throw a tantrum.”
“V” also stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Morris Chestnut, Lourdes Benedicto, Logan Huffman, Laura Vandervoort, Morena Baccarin, and Scott Wolf.
“V” airs Tuesday nights on /A\.
