In an unprecedented campaign for a conventional broadcaster in support of a literary event, CTV Inc. has announced its extensive multi-platform effort in celebration of the 2010 Scotiabank GILLER PRIZE. CTV’s widespread coverage is anchored by its broadcast of the GILLER PRIZE Gala, hosted by CTV’s Seamus O’Regan and airing live on Bravo!, BookTelevision, and Giller.CTV.ca on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 9 p.m. ET, on CTV on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET, and on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. on CTV and 7 p.m. ET on /A\.

This year, CTV supports the Giller Prize with unprecedented special coverage leading up to the Gala. Highlights include Bravo!’s ONE COUNTRY 5 BOOKS companion series – also airing on CTV – and the pre-GILLER, one-hour special, ARTS & MINDS SPECIAL EDITION: THE GILLER WRITERS' CIRCLE. As well, CP24 features interviews with the Giller Prize shortlisted nominees, CANADA AM presents author profiles and a roundtable discussion, and ETALK pairs each finalist with a celebrity interviewer including Sergio Di Zio (FLASHPOINT) and Jordan Todosey (DEGRASSI). Full broadcast details below.

With worldwide exposure online and through multiple national telecasts here at home, Canadian authors have experienced what has been coined CTV’s "Giller Effect" - the significant spike in sales enjoyed by the GILLER PRIZE’s featured authors following the CTV broadcasts. A record 2.8 million* Canadians tuned in to some part of CTV’s multiple presentations of the Scotiabank GILLER PRIZE last year, the biggest reach ever for the broadcast. Subsequently, the sales for last year’s shortlisted authors increased ten fold, with the winner, Linden McIntyre’s The Bishop’s Man, enjoying a sales increase of 812% over the first two weeks following his win.

“CTV is proud to support the spirit of the Prize in uniting Canadian readers in admiration for this country’s extraordinary literary talent,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “This truly unique broadcast resonates with readers, writers and viewers in an immediate and meaningful way.”

“As our media partner for the fifth year in a row, CTV has been a vital component in bringing the best of Canadian literature into the lives and living rooms of millions of Canadians across the country,” said Jack Rabinovitch, founder of The Giller Prize. “This year, CTV goes above and beyond in their promotion and support of the Scotiabank Giller Prize, as the network’s various platforms get involved in some way, big and small, online and on air.”

“I’m proud that CTV has spent a lot of time and resources to build the audience for this,” said Seamus O’Regan, host of the Scotiabank GILLER PRIZE gala and broadcast. “If you can celebrate [the prize], make it sexy, somewhat competitive, and put on a gala with champagne –   it’s like the Golden Globes® for authors, it’s got that cool veneer.”
