Michael Murphy

For over 35 years, Michael Murphy has performed in film, television and the theatre. He has had major roles in many award-winning pictures and has worked with some of the most respected filmmakers of his generation.

Murphy has worked in more than 100 television productions, the highlight of which was the Robert Altman - Gary Trudeau cult series TANNER ‘88 in which he played the title role. It was followed in 2004 by the mini series TANNER ON TANNER. He also appeared in the classic AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MISS JANE PITTMAN, which won nine EMMY® Awards.

A partial list of Murphy’s interesting credits include: Magnolia (SAG nomination for Best Ensemble); Kansas City; Batman Returns; Salvador; The Year of Living Dangerously; Manhattan; The Front; An Unmarried Woman; Nashville; What’s Up Doc?; Brewster McCloud and M*A*S*H*.

Additionally, Murphy has been busy narrating some highly acclaimed programs for PBS, including: LONG JOURNEY HOME: THE IRISH IN AMERICA; THE LAST STAND OF TALLGRASS PRAIRIE, MOUNT RUSHMORE and DEPRESSION: OUT OF THE SHADOWS, which won the Peabody Award for Journalism. He has also committed many well-known novels to tape including the Nero Wolfe series.

Since moving to Canada, Murphy has worked on the series THIS IS WONDERLAND, for which he won two Best Supporting Actor Gemini awards in 2004 and 2005. He had a recurring role on the critically acclaimed CTV series THE ELEVENTH HOUR and leading roles in the CBC movies-of-the-week FOOTSTEPS and IN THE DARK for Shaftesbury Films.

Recently, Murphy has been seen in the films Silver City; Away From Her; X3 and Heights, as well as on the ESPN series TILT and the CBC television movie THE QUALITY OF LIFE: A DOMINIC DAVINCI MOVIE. He just wrapped filming on the project Greta with Hilary Duff and Ellen Burstyn and co-wrote an original screenplay entitled Crashing.

As Top Police Brass, Ed is a political animal who is always angling for position. Sensing Frank’s power, Ed makes an uneasy alliance with him in order to further his own agenda. He’s shrewd, practical, and is constantly maneuvering himself to come out on top. Ed’s biggest flaw is that he thinks he’s smarter than Frank. Frank often uses this flaw to turn the tables on Ed, yet Ed keeps on trying. Above all, Ed is a survivor.
