Melissa Mitro credits her confidence as the key element that landed her a spot in the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Top 22. After her third year trying out, Melissa was shocked to hear that her dreams had come true. “If you really want something, no matter how many times you fail, believe in yourself and work hard and it will eventually pay off,” said Melissa.

Although she is primarily a contemporary dancer, Melissa is well acquainted with jazz, ballet, tap, acrobatics, lyrical, highland and cha cha, and enjoys salsa dancing in her spare time.

Having worked with esteemed choreographers and performers including dancing for Travis Wall and Teddy Forance, Melissa believes that doing the best she can with every genre and believing in herself will make her Canada’s Favourite Dancer.

Even though Melissa found the atmosphere and pressure during Finals Week hard to deal with, the competition has helped her become more confident. “Viewers can expect someone who is ready to get anything thrown at them,” said Melissa.

When this contemporary dancer is not on stage, Melissa enjoys watching movies, reading and spending time with her family.

Melissa feels that SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA is important because she says “it allows you to showcase yourself and your talents to Canada! How cool is that!?”
