During finals week, Matt Marr learned he was able to handle stressful situations better than he thought. However, he was still surprised when the judges revealed that he made SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA’s Top 22. “Shock – complete shock – I think I’m still in shock,” says Matt.

Matt believes his drive, positivity and focus are the strengths that got him this far in the competition. Trained primarily in contemporary, Matt also gained experience in many unique styles including clogging, jazz, tap, lyrical, hip-hop, ballet and Irish hard and soft shoe. Matt credits competitions and dance lessons from various choreographers from New York and Los Angeles for influencing his dance style and shaping his career.

As the only Top 22 competitor from Atlantic Canada, Matt has many supporters from his hometown who are anticipating the moment he steps onto the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA stage. “I have so many supporters from home it’s insane,” said Matt. Proud of where he has come from, Matt knows that making it on the show is a really big deal.

Matt says he would be honoured to work with SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANDA guest judge and Emmy® Award-winning choreographer Mia Michaels. “I am completely in love with the way that she creates dance, and I truly believe that she has evolved the way we think of contemporary dance,” said Matt.

Matt will bring a unique edge and big heart to the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA stage, and is not afraid to show who he really is. “Viewers can expect me to perform every piece to its fullest, and to pour my heart and soul onto the stage no matter what,” said Matt. “Canada – I can’t wait to dance for you!”
