Jamaican-born Geisha Chin says it was her drive that helped her into the Top 22 of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA’s Season 4. “I came back this year really fighting for it, and I wanted it so bad that I pushed myself 200% all the time,” said Geisha. She is ready to show viewers her energy and positivity on the dance floor. “This is all I’ve ever wanted to do and I want viewers to see my passion,” said Geisha.
Geisha first started dancing ballet at two years old in Jamaica. She moved to Canada and trained at various studios in Toronto including Soul in Motion, Vlads Dance Company and Elite Danceworx. “Migrating from Jamaica and starting a life in Canada from absolutely nothing has opened so many opportunities for me,” said Geisha.
Geisha is eager and hopeful to work with Jean Marc Genereux to improve her ballroom technique because “His choreography is always fun and sexy! And I love his French accent!,” said Geisha.
If she could dance and perform with any one person dead or alive, Geisha says she would choose the king of pop, Michael Jackson, as she believes “he has inspired so much of the dance world. Many of his moves are still present in our dancing today.” Geisha’s admiration runs so deep for Michael Jackson, that her favourite song to dance to is “Billie Jean.”
People might be surprised to learn that Geisha is obsessed with fast food. “I eat so much. If I could, I would eat from a fast food restaurant every day,” said Geisha. When she’s not on the dance floor, her favourite hobbies are reading and singing in the shower.
Geisha believes that to become Canada’s Favourite Dancer it will take drive, determination, sleepless nights and personality. “I have to make Canada fall in love with my dancing and my personality! Viewers can expect to see me leave my heart on that stage every time I perform,” said Geisha.
