When Adam Asselin-Rioux heard that he had made So You Think You Can Dance Canada’s Top 22, he says he “screamed, jumped and laughed in excitement!” According to Adam, it’s his dance style and personality that have helped bring him this far in the competition.
Adam’s love of dance was discovered at the age of 10, when his mother saw him dancing in front of the television, mimicking the moves of Michael Jackson. He also names the King of Pop as the person he would most like to dance with, because “Michael Jackson is one of the top legends of dance,” said Adam.
His formal training took place at L'École de danse de Québec in Quebec City, and while Adam’s main style of dance is contemporary, he is also trained in ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap and modern. As a well-rounded dancer, Adam has travelled to Spain, Mexico and France where he performed as part of various dance tours.
Adam says he has worked with a number of choreographers, but is looking forward to working with So You Think You Can Dance Canada judge Blake McGrath, who he says is an inspiration to him. Adam would love to follow in Blake’s dance career footsteps.
When not on the dance floor, Adam can be found watching Jersey Shore, eating sushi or dancing up a storm at the clubs. Don’t expect to find him texting though, because Adam doesn’t own a cell phone!
When asked what viewers can expect when they see Adam perform on So You Think You Can Dance Canada, he says, “something completely different from the other competitors, my dance style is unique.” Adam believes his hard work and unique dance style will push him through becoming Canada’s favourite dancer.
