It’s that time – Academy Awards season, a perfect excuse to get out of the mid-winter Sunday night track pants and throw an Oscars party!

Whether or not you’ve seen all the movies, there’s no better way to spend Sunday evening than watching the stars strut the red carpet with your chums.

So send out an email invite with a link to the CTV.ca Oscars Ballot and start planning for Sunday’s extravaganza.

It’s all touques and scarves (or raincoats if you’re in Toronto or Vancouver!) these days, so why not encourage your friends to arrive in their fanciest attire a la 1920s Paris (with a shout out to “Midnight in Paris.”)

Or you could up the ante and go for a flapper theme reminiscent of “The Artist.” Mink stoles and long cigarette holders, anyone?

If you’re a Brad Pitt fan and have old baseball jerseys kicking around, pull out your baseball bats and mitts (and old Expos pennants!) and go with “Moneyball” décor. Or if George Clooney’s your movie star crush, you could pull out those Bermuda shirts you wore when you were in Hawaii last, or jack the heat and pull out last summer’s bikini.

Though it’s a long shot for Melissa McCarthy to win Best Supporting Actress in "Bridesmaids,” you could encourage your female guests to show up in their most hideous bridesmaids dress (because we all have at least one!)

Now that would make for one fabulous party.

Popcorn! Peanuts!

E! host Leah Miller says that if she wasn’t covering the red carpet down in L.A., she’d be serving sliders and corndogs to watch the Oscars.
“I love keeping things really easy and simple,” she says.

The easiest themed food would be hot dogs and crackerjacks and watered down (overpriced!) beer in a “Moneyball” homage but you could get fancy with a “Midnight in Paris” spread of croissants, pate, and a bottle of pinot noir.

If you’re gunning for Meryl Streep to win Best Actress, serve traditional British grub – fish and chips, English trifle and Yorkshire pudding in honour of Maggie Thatcher.

And though etalk host Ben Mulroney has never been to an Oscars party (because he’s been AT the Oscars for the last ten years, covering the red carpet), he says he’d throw a BYOB potluck.

“It’d be low key, but I’d make sure people filled out their winners beforehand and then we’d have a cash prize!”

Whether you get dolled up in a flapper dress, or keep your track pants on and heat up corndogs in the oven, start placing your bets for Best picture now…
