For die-hard “Lost” fan Adrien Lotfipour, attending an exclusive viewing party with cast and crew of the show was beyond his wildest dreams.
The 22-year-old from Burnaby, B.C., was the grand prize winner of CTV’s “Get LOST in L.A.: The Final Celebration contest,” and was flown to Hollywood last week for the unprecedented event.
“I am a huge ‘Lost’ fan. I was watching it online at CTV.ca and I stumbled upon the contest and thought I might as well try out, I know I’m not going to win. Little did I know two days later CTV contacted me and said, ‘You just won!’” says Lotfipour.
“It was just a shock when I found out.”
Lotfipour and his girlfriend Itziar Belaustegui were picked up from his house in a limo and taken to the airport. When they arrived in L.A., another limo driver was waiting to take them to the Renaissance Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard.
“I felt like a movie star,” he says.
Having never been to L.A., the pair spent the day sightseeing and shopping before being whisked to UCLA’s Royce Hall for the special finale event.
“Lost” stars Jorge Garcia (Hurley), Josh Holloway (Sawyer), Michael Emerson (Ben), Daniel Dae Kim (Jin) and Nestor Carbonell (Richard) joined the party, as did executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.
“Seeing Hurley was pretty cool, (as well) as the creators. It was really cool to actually see them up close and listen to their philosophy on the show and their ideas. It was just exciting to see all the characters.”
The event also included music from the hit show, performed live by an orchestra led by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino, and a special screening of the second last episode.
“It was really fun. I’m always craving to watch Lost every Tuesday so it felt good to see it a bit earlier … I felt like a V.I.P.”
Lotfipour says the producers thanked everyone for all their support over the years, but wouldn’t reveal any hints as to what’s coming up on the much-anticipated series finale Sunday night.
“They said it was going to be good. They said all the answers were going to be (revealed).”
Lotfipour, who also won custom fine art prints of the island’s six remaining candidates, is leaving for Europe this week so will have to catch up on the finale online when he gets back. But he will never forget the experience leading up to it.
“Just to go down to L.A. for a few days was amazing … it was definitely an experience that I’ll always hold on to and this ‘Lost’ thing, it just made it even more fun because I love the show.”
