'Hiccups' wins big at Leo Awards
Nancy Robertson and Brent Butt had a huge night at the west coast awards show over the weekend at this year’s Leo Awards celebration.
The Leo Awards honours the best in the television and film industry in British Columbia.
At the Gala event on Saturday night, “Hiccups” took home awards for “Best Music, Comedy or Variety Program,” and Nancy Robertson also picked up the prize for “Best Performance.”
Robertson plays Millie Upton on “Hiccups,” a children’s author with a nasty temper that finds respite and advice from her new life coach, Stan Dirko (Butt).
The ceremony was held at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, with the previous “celebration awards” taking place Wednesday night at Club 560.
While accepting her award, Robertson reportedly had the crowd in stitches Saturday night, making jokes about sleeping with one of her co-stars and her can’t-repeat-it-here nickname for her agent.
“Hiccups” also won “Best Direction in a Music, Comedy or Variety Program” for the episode “Hot Luv,” directed by James Dunnison, “Best Screenwriting in a Music, Comedy or Variety Program” for “Hippie Anniversary,” written by David Moses, and “Best Picture Editing in a Music, Comedy or Variety Program” for “Hot Luv,” edited by Lisa Binkley.
Robertson, and her husband and fellow “Hiccups” co-producer Butt are no stranger to the Leo Awards, as their previous series “Corner Gas” earned twelve Leos over their run in primetime.
CTV original SPACE channel program “Sanctuary” also picked up three awards, “Overall Sound,” “Costume Design,” and “Supporting Performance by a Male” for Ryan Robbins. “Todd & The Book of Pure Evil” also won “Best Direction in a Dramatic Series.”
The now-cancelled “Human Target” also earned an award for “Stunt Coordination.”
The second season of “Hiccups” is now airing on CTV, with full episodes available online, as well as the entire first season -- including the award-winning episode, “Hot Luv.”
