Sergio Di Zio

Sergio Di Zio multi-tasks away from FLASHPOINT as well as Michaelangelo "Spike" Scarlatti does on duty within the SRU. And he seems to like it that way. Born in Toronto to Italian parents, Di Zio's childhood passion for make believe has translated into a successful career as an actor in every available medium.

His adventures in film include Ron Howard's Cinderella Man, Flash of Genius, and the Independant Spirit Award Winning The Lookout, playing the lovable Deputy Ted. Sergio has starred in Just Buried, 19 Months and the Peter Wellington film, Luck, winner of the South by Southwest Film Festival.

Sergio’s TV movie appearances include Robert Ludlum's Covert One: The Hades Factor, John Stamos' The Wedding Wars and the Fox biopic RFK where he played Robert F. Kennedy’s adviser and speechwriter Adam Walinsky. Prior to FLASHPOINT, he starred in the CBC critics hit, THIS IS WONDERLAND and the series NORTHERN TOWN, which shot for 5 cold weeks in the Yukon.

When away from his SRU duties, Sergio supplements his time by returning to the theatre and touring the country with hit plays such as Rosa Laborde's Leo, a threehander for which he received a Dora nomination for Outstanding Actor, and Wajdi Mouawad’s 2008 Dora Award winning play, Scorched.

Radio listeners and animation fans are familiar with Sergio’s distinctive voice. He voices characters in the series STOKED, WAYSIDE SCHOOL and most recently, BABAR, where he plays Tersh, a 10 year old, reluctant, bully alligator.

Away from his work Sergio is an avid reader-specifically a history and politics junkie. He can also be seen at the comic shop new release section picking up his favourite titles. Given that Di Zio has always been partial to the superhero team books, working on FLASHPOINT is truly a kid fantasy come true.

Mike 'Spike' Scarlatti

Spike Scarlatti is the nerve centre of the team – the technician, the Bomb Tech, the guy who keeps everyone connected. He’s an upbeat, likeable Italian guy who likes to see stuff blow up, except when it’s his job to make sure it doesn’t. Spike’s very much in touch with his inner kid and fascinated with science. He’s also a great listener, easygoing and intuitive, the peacemaker on the team who hates to see people fight.

This season Spike must rescue his own mentor, a tough but lovable older cop who was like a father to him on the force – a man who gave him all the unconditional support in his career choice that his real father wouldn’t. But Spike knew nothing about the dark relationship between his mentor and a notorious gang. Spike is forced to confront the tragedies he’s survived, including the loss of his best friend and teammate Lou, and is left with a painful choice to make if he is to remain on Team One.
