Wipe out! 'ANTM' contestant Brittany eliminated in Hawaii
For this math whiz, when it came to her elimination, things didn’t quite seem to add up.
Currently a student at Santa Clara University, Brittany Markert advanced with the top six finalists on “America’s Next Top Model” as they travelled to Hawaii for the remainder of the cycle.
The first week in Hawaii also featured the show’s most controversial photo shoot: host and photographer Tyra Banks had the girls dressed as bi-racial models.
Brittany, despite masterfully wearing a Native American headdress in the challenge, was ultimately told by the judges that she was the next girl in the competition to leave.
CTV.ca talked to the eliminated model about who she thought should have gone home, and what her plans for the future are.
So what do you think happened?
Well, going into Hawaii, I thought I’d been performing pretty well over the past week. In the beginning I was in the bottom two, but in the following weeks, I was in the top three four weeks in a row. So we had the surfing challenge, and I did pretty well on that. Then we go to the photo shoot, and Jay loved my shoot! They even showed in the edit that he said great things about it. I was only out there, five, seven minutes, so it was quick. It was a huge shock for me at the time. I had to reflect on it for several weeks to figure out what really happened.
So what did you come up with?
I don’t know, maybe they didn’t see me as a winner? They didn’t see me as “America’s Next Top Model,” so they eliminated me then instead of later? I didn’t think it was my time. I understand what they were saying about the catalog modeling but considering for the last week, the photo shoots where I didn’t behave in such a manner, and it was unfair to exile me because of one pose that looks catalog.
Who do you think should have gone home this week?
I don’t know if it was my time, or Erin’s time to leave. I wasn’t crazy about Sundai’s photo, especially since she’s given the same face every week… that seems like something they wouldn’t allow, especially in the top six.
What has life been like since you’ve done the show?
My life since the show has been called the “in-limbo” phase, because when I got back, I was supposed to graduate in June, but I had to leave for the show. So I got back in school, and everyone has been gone. I’ve been math tutoring in my spare time and took summer school, because I have two classes left to complete my degree. For the past couple months I’ve just been travelling, visiting family, and having parties every Wednesday to watch the show.
Do you plan on finishing your degree before pursuing modeling?
My last class is only ten weeks from April till June so right now, until then I’m going to give my all to modeling and see what happens. I’ve already been contacted by an agency as of yesterday, so hopefully that goes well.
